Mark Slater (born in May 1969) is a British fund manager, business writer and co-founder of Slater Investments.

Early life

Mark Slater was born in May 1969. He graduated from Cambridge University with a Master of Arts degree in History.

Career

Slater worked on Societe Generale's bond desk for 6 months after graduating and then joined Investors Chronicle as an analyst. In 1992 he helped research and edit a best-selling investment book "The Zulu Principle" for his father, Jim Slater, which focuses on identifying small to medium-sized growth companies. Mark Slater, follows his father's Peg ratio philosophy to focus on stocks with sustainable double digit growth. During his career, Mark has served on the boards of four public companies in which he has been a substantial shareholder.

Slater Investments

Mark Slater is the Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Slater Investments which he co-founded with Ralph Baber in 1994. The company manages pooled funds and segregated portfolios for institutional pension funds, charities and high net worth individuals. Following the success of the MFM Slater Growth fund, which was launched in 2005, the MFM Slater Income fund was launched in 2011. Slater Investments also manages the MFM Slater Recovery fund launched in 2003 and a hedge fund, Northglen Aggressive.

Slater was vocal in March 2016 when he led a shareholder revolt at Lakehouse joining up with the previous founder, Steve Rawlings, calling for the removal of 3 non-executive directors from the board. Mark called an EGM to address serious corporate governance issues and restore shareholder value to which he was successful.

In 2016, according to The Daily Telegraph Slater tops the list of five UK fund managers have delivered annualised returns of more than 10pc over the past decade.

Recognition

In 2000, theguardian.com named Slater one of ten the young rich entrepreneurs.

In 2014 Slater was named Fund Manager of the Year by City A.M..

In 2016, Slater Investments won Best UK equity funds award by Money Observer.
